Provocative Passage to the Roof of the World

Most trips I take are enjoyable in the moment. Some stay with me for a few weeks. Now and then I look back through journals or photos of the best traveling I’ve done. But going to Tibet, as I did last week, changes the measuring stick. It was a journey as stimulating as any I’ve ever been part of. My traveling companions and I were continually moved by the Tibetans’ pain threshold and sense of humor in the face of Chinese colonization there and the gradual extinction of their culture.

A few of my reflections are posted on hipbelt. Probably I’ll continue to stew over this trip for years to come.
